Classic American Banana Bread: Easy Homemade Recipe
If you love American desserts, then you probably know or have tried Banana Bread—the soft, sweet, and aromatic bread made with ripe bananas. Perfect for breakfast, a snack, or alongside a cup of coffee or tea, this homemade treat is simple to make and incredibly satisfying. Here’s an easy step-by-step recipe to bake your own Banana Bread at home.
Ingredients
-
3 very ripe bananas (the riper, the sweeter)
-
100 grams (½ cup) melted butter
-
150 grams (¾ cup) sugar (adjust to taste)
-
2 large eggs
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 teaspoon baking soda
-
A pinch of salt
-
190 grams (1 ½ cups) all-purpose flour
-
50 grams (¼ cup) nuts of your choice (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts – optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the oven and pan
Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a loaf pan with butter or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
2. Mash the bananas
In a large bowl, mash the bananas with a fork until smooth. Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
3. Mix dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.
4. Combine wet and dry ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture. Stir gently until just combined—overmixing can make the bread dense.
5. Add nuts (optional)
Fold in your choice of nuts or chocolate chips if desired.
6. Bake
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. Cool and serve
Allow the bread to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Slice and serve with coffee or tea.
